US watchdogs 'taking seriously' banks' alleged Epstein support
The Guardian
|November 29, 2025
Allegations that top banks may have facilitated Jeffrey Epstein's criminal activity are being taken "very seriously", according to US regulators.
The watchdogs have come under pressure to investigate executives including Jes Staley, the former head of Barclays.
In correspondence seen by the Guardian, the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) and the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) said they had reviewed a letter from the US Democratic senator Elizabeth Warren about bankers' alleged support for Epstein.
That includes Staley, who Warren said had allegedly protected the convicted child sex offender's access to the banking system while working at JP Morgan in the early 2000s.
