Mobiles to receive test warning from emergency alert system
The Guardian
|August 27, 2025
Mobile phones across the UK will experience their first test warning from the emergency alerts system in more than two years next week, as the Cabinet Office seeks to "ensure that it works when we need it most".
The test, which will take place at 3pm on 7 September, will be the first since April 2023. The event will include users' phones making a loud, siren-like sound coupled with vibrations so that people with a visual or hearing impairment will know they have received the alert.
While users are able to opt out of the test, they are advised not to in case the areas they are in receive alerts in the future.
