Middlesex urged to review culture and behaviour
The Guardian
|November 01, 2024
Middlesex County Cricket Club should undertake a formal review of its culture, governance and the behaviour of staff members, according to the sport's regulator.
The club is awaiting the verdict of a Cricket Discipline Commission hearing after being charged with improper conduct by the Cricket Regulator in September. In September 2023 it was fined £50,000 and given a suspended points deduction by the ECB after being found guilty of spending central funding allocated for grassroots programmes on its first team.
Separately, the Guardian has learned that the Cricket Regulator's board asked two of its board members in September to review how the body handled complaints about the culture inside Middlesex. The Cricket Regulator is the sport's independent disciplinary and compliance body that was set up by the England and Wales Cricket Board after its governance system was criticised by MPs following the Azeem Rafiq racism scandal.

'A serious list of winners' Anderson's epic captures the current febrile mood
Now that the political scene in the contemporary United States looks like an unending string of military PR coups for the Trumpian right at home and abroad, it's appropriate that Paul Thomas Anderson's spectacular, mysterious counterculture epic One Battle After Another - with Leonardo DiCaprio as a clueless, dishevelled ex-revolutionary should consolidate its current position as one of the leading movies of this awards season: winning four Golden Globes including best musical or comedy and best director for Anderson whose fluency, productivity and pure technique and ambition are arguably making him America's pre-eminent film-maker. The excellent Teyana Taylor got best supporting actress.
