Man gave minister's address to fake Russian agents, court hears

A 65-year-old man provided the personal details of the then defence secretary, Grant Shapps, to two undercover police officers whom he believed to be Russian intelligence operatives for "easy money", a court has heard.
Howard Phillips was struggling financially and applying for a job at Border Force when he was approached by the officers, posing as Russian agents called Dima and Sasha, Winchester crown court heard.
Phillips handed over a memory stick containing Shapps’s home address and the location of his private plane, the jury heard.
The defendant was arrested in May 2024 and charged with assisting a foreign intelligence service. He denies all charges.
