Almost a Third of Tuvalu's Citizens Apply for Australian Climate Visa

Almost a third of the citizens in sea-threatened Tuvalu have applied for climate crisis visas to live in Australia.
Under a deal Canberra has billed as the first of its kind anywhere, it is offering 280 visas a year to inhabitants of the tiny Pacific island country.
More than 3,000 Tuvaluans have entered a ballot for the first batch – almost a third of the population.
One of the most climate-threatened parts of the planet, Tuvalu will be uninhabitable within 80 years, scientists fear. Two of the archipelago's nine coral atolls have already largely disappeared under the waves.
