Adolescence triumphs at Emmys as The Studio breaks awards record

Owen Cooper became the youngest ever winner of the award for best supporting actor in a limited series at the Emmy awards for his role in Adolescence.

The series, which became Netflix's second most-watched show ever, won for limited series, directing and writing and picked up three acting awards.

In his speech, Cooper, 15, called the experience "just so surreal". He said: "When I started these drama classes a couple of years back, I didn't expect to even be in the United States, never mind here. I think tonight proves if you listen, and you focus and you step out your comfort zone, you can achieve anything in life.

"Who cares if you get embarrassed? Anything can be possible. I was nothing about three years ago; I'm here now."

Fellow British actor Stephen Graham won two personal awards for the same show, for writing and as lead actor in a limited series, beating Colin Farrell and Jake Gyllenhaal. "This kind of thing doesn't usually happen to a kid like me," he said, calling it the "utmost humbling thing I could ever imagine in my life".

Erin Doherty, who is also British, won best supporting actress in a limited series for her part in Adolescence.
