Shopping plaza razed as retail plans take shape

PHOTOGRAPHS have shown the scale of progress with the redevelopment of part of Eston town centre.
Demolition has now been completed of the old shopping precinct by contractor Esh in preparation for new foundations being laid.
These will house seven new retail units, part of a 14,600sq ft multi-million pound scheme being overseen by Redcar and Cleveland Council with the aid of Government funds, along with new paving, benches and lights.
In total 18 existing retail units and six flats located above them have been brought down, with asbestos also being safely removed.
The council previously purchased the remaining freeholds with help being given to the handful of remaining retailers to relocate elsewhere.
