Rumble grumble as drivers ignore warning strips

RUMBLE strips installed as part of council traffic calming measures on a busy road don’t properly rumble, a councillor has complained.

The strips were installed near the Flatts Lane Country Park by Redcar and Cleveland Council, along with a flashing sign which warns motorists over their speed.

But Normanby councillor Curt Pugh said the measures were “not working” and largely being ignored by drivers.

Flatts Lane connects the A171 Middlesbrough to Guisborough road with Normanby and begins with a 60mph limit on the largely rural stretch, before dropping down to 40mph as motorists come down a bank and approach the park entrance on the left.

As they continue along the road drivers pass the Woodcross Gate housing development, west of Flatts Lane and north of Woodcock Wood where an electronic sign warns drivers going over 40mph, before the limit drops again further along to 30mph heading over a bridge which crosses the A174 Parkway.
