HE PUNCHED HER IN THE BACK AND CHOKED HER

- By ESTHER HALLIGAN

A 6FT 7INS tall Redcar man attacked his long-term partner after she inadvertently woke him when he had asked her not to.

Paul Duckworth got out of bed and punched his girlfriend in the back and on her ear. She described “sharp shooting pains” as the thug asked her: “Are you f****** stupid? I told you not to wake me up!”

Duckworth, 54, then put his hands around his partner’s neck and choked her.

Teesside Crown Court heard the victim struggled to breathe in the early hours of January 30, and began crying, as she said, “you promised you wouldn't do this again.”

Duckworth launched a bag of perfume bottles at her and replied: “I hate you. I'm glad I'm moving out.”

But on Wednesday, Duckworth’s partner sat in the public gallery at Teesside Crown Court in support of her boyfriend. She withdrew her support for the prosecution before he had attended an initial court hearing to enter a plea in relation to the attack.

Medication The couple have been together for six years and live in Redcar.
