Key planning blueprint already facing a delay

THE drawing up of a new Local Plan in Redcar and Cleveland has stalled due to delays with national planning changes.

It is a requirement for local authorities to prepare such documents, which act as a strategic blueprint for future potential development such as housing.

In June as part of preparation for the new plan, the council invited landowners, developers and planning agents to submit sites with a view to development. This resulted in 46 that are to be considered under a housing and economic land availability assessment.

A report for a growth scrutiny committee said, all told, that 150 sites were under assessment, some from a previous appraisal in 2020 with others including council owned land, land involved in planning applications and identified through site visits or desktop assessments.
