GREEN LIGHT GIVEN MONTHS AFTER FIRE IN DERELICT SOCIAL CLUB

THE building of 39 houses and the repositioning of sports pitches has been given the green light after ministerial consultation.
Middlesbrough Council officers approved the plans for the Acklam Iron and Steelworks Athletic Club site, following referral to Angela Rayner’s office, due to sustained opposition from Sport England.
In addition to new homes and a repositioning of the sports pitches, the plans are also set to see the repositioning of changing facilities.
Earlier this year, in February, a fire broke out at the former Acklam Iron and Steelworks Club building in Middlesbrough. Multiple fire engines attended the scene as thick black smoke filled the sky.
