THE devastated family of an experienced hiker who lost his life suddenly on a popular walking trail say he died doing something he loved.

- By SUE KIRBY

Mick Say was taking part in a regular hike along the Cleveland Way when he suddenly dropped to the ground and banged his head on a rock.

Despite the best efforts of pals and a passing doctor, he died at the scene.

The popular 64-year-old’s heartbroken wife, Mel, who was with him at the time, said the whole incident is a blur and she can't take it in that he has gone.

The Brotton couple were taking part in one of their regular weekly walks with a group of friends on Tuesday, November 25, when Mick suddenly fell near Captain Cook's Monument.

She said he hit his forehead, but until a post mortem is carried out they won't know if it was the blow that killed him or a sudden medical issue.
