COUNCILLOR'S ‘PERSONAL OPINION' ON PROPOSED INCINERATOR PLANS
THE Tees Valley Mayor has given his “personal opinion” on the proposed incinerator set to be situated near Grangetown.
Ben Houchen, Conservative Mayor of the Tees Valley was recently asked for his view on the matter at a Tees Valley Combined Authority (TVCA) scrutiny meeting.
He said that if the decision was up to him, he wouldn't be progressing with the project, highlighting that newer technologies that have emerged since the start of the process. The mayor also critiqued the decision to only consider the Teesworks site for any potential incinerator.
As the meeting, on Wednesday May 14, got underway, chairing Middlesbrough Labour Councillor Ian Blades, thanked Mayor Houchen for his attendance, adding that he had fulfilled his promise to attend two Overview and Scrutiny Q&A meetings in the year.
Redcar and Cleveland Liberal Democrat Councillor Glyn Nightingale asked Mayor Houchen for his “attitude” towards the Tees Valley Energy Recovery Facility (TVERF) development.
