Boro right to allow wantaway players to leave, says Scott

KIERAN Scott insisted the sales of both Rav van den Berg and Finn Azaz made sense this summer, largely because both players wanted to leave Middlesbrough.

Boro were able to recoup over £20 million from the sales of the pair, with Van den Berg moving to FC Koln in Germany and Azaz joining Championship promotion rivals Southampton. Another £5 million was made on the sale of Josh Coburn to Millwall earlier in the summer too.

While that ultimately helped Boro reinvest in their own squad, as 11 new players arrived in the transfer window, for Scott and head coach Rob Edwards, the big factor was wanting players who wanted to be at the club.

In the case of Dutch youth international Van den Berg, Scott tried to be as polite as possible in discussing how he ultimately forced through his exit.
