A slow transfer burner, but more to come

Rav van den Berg has attracted attention

- By CRAIG JOHNS

ROB Edwards insists that Middlesbrough will add more signings before the window closes, as he moved to explain why business hasn't been as fast as many would have hoped.

On the eve of the new season, Boro had so far only been able to conclude three incoming transfers, with Alfie Jones, Callum Brittain and Abdoulaye Kante through the door.

However, it's clear after five loan exits and two end-of-contract departures that Boro still need more.

Speaking ahead of today's first game of the season against Swansea City, Edwards insisted: "There will be more. The guys are working really hard behind the scenes.

"Obviously we're here now and we're focused on tomorrow and doing the work at the training ground and on the grass.

"But there's a lot of work going on behind the scenes to help us improve and strengthen. We all know what's needed. It can be quite dynamic because there's always change. But we're all united and we know what we need. The guys are working really hard on that.

"I think it's dangerous to talk about a number. But we're quite clear on the areas we want to try and improve and add some more depth. That's important. We're really clear on the plan."
