While floodwaters surged across Metro Cebu at the height of Typhoon Tino, many residents found themselves without a drop of potable water.

In a statement released yesterday, the Metropolitan Cebu Water District (MCWD) confirmed that water production remains critically low, with restoration efforts ongoing across multiple wellfields and pipeline systems.

As of 9:30 a.m. on November 5, 2025, the water district reported a water production level of 109,000 cubic meters, significantly lower than its normal output of 275,000 cubic meters. Despite this, MCWD, in its Facebook post, assured consumers that teams are working nonstop to bring back safe and reliable water to affected areas.

The water district attributed the disruption to infrastructure damage and clearing delays caused by the typhoon's impact.

In Talisay City, repair works are underway at the Jaclupan Wellfield Facility, where an 800mm pipeline collapsed due to flooding along the Mananga River.

The pipeline sustained severe structural damage and must be lifted and restored to resume safe operations, with completion expected within five days.

Too much politics, too weak economy

Even during the height of disasters and calamities, the Pinoys talk about politics. The problem with the Philippines is that Filipinos eat politics for breakfast, for lunch, and for dinner. I lived in Malaysia, Kuwait, and Taiwan as a labor diplomat for a total of nine years. I witnessed how Malaysians, Kuwaitis, and Taiwanese focused on economic development and left politics to the politicians.
