Ron Manalang: On The Virtues of Leadership and Fatherhood

The metro’s hospitality sphere is no stranger to visionary leanings of Ron Manalang. At one point at the helm of a 2000-room property in the United States, Ron has seen to the seamless openings of various Seda developments in the country — famously steering Seda Central Bloc Cebu when it opened in 2020 through challenges brought about by the pandemic, and through disruptions brought about by regional natural calamities in the years that came after.

Now the Cluster General Manager of Seda Hotels Cebu (helming Seda Ayala Center Cebu and Seda Central Bloc Cebu), we’re taking time to know more about Ron today — how fatherhood shaped him into the man he is today, and what vistas he is set on bringing Seda Hotels Cebu to.

The Freeman: How has your experience — professionally and as a father — embolden you as a leader?

Ron Manalang: Being a father has honed patience and empathy, while my professional experience has taught me how to best drive profitability. This has enabled me to foster a supportive and empowering culture both at home and in Seda Hotels in Cebu.

Merging the two worlds has shaped my approach to leadership. From fatherhood, I’ve learned to nurture “malasakit”. Just as I guide my children, I also focus on the career growth and well-being of my staff.

From my work experience, I embrace the value of strategic adaptability. My years in the industry has sharpened my ability to analyze operational metrics and streamline processes, and as such, I approach every guest with the same meticulous care I give to my team and family. Fostering a supportive environment builds trust in my team and at home.
