Rest breaks, flexi hours for Mandaue staff pushed

To protect its field personnel from extreme weather, the Mandaue City Council has approved on first reading an ordinance mandating rest breaks and flexible work arrangements for all outdoor workers under the city government.

Councilor Jennifer Del Mar, the author of the proposed ordinance, said the city wants to institutionalize a 15-minute rest period for field employees, especially after seeing the challenges they face under the recent hot weather.

"Lawas ra gyud atong puhunan tanan, importante gyud kaayo," Del Mar said.

Del Mar also clarified that once passed, the ordinance will entitle workers to the same 15-minute break during heavy rainfall.

Beyond ensuring productivity, Del Mar emphasized that working under extreme heat or rain can seriously endanger the health of personnel.
