Much has been said of how Cebuano art can serve as a canon of creative diversity.
After all, practically no creative movement, theme or style has been left out in the Queen City of the South's collective "artistic vocabulary" - from the detail-rich renderings of Cebuano realist masters to the philosophy-infused canvas-bound musings of Cebu's expressionists.
As Cebu's "speaker" for the impressionist and post-impressionist modes, Jose Mari Picornell - simply JM or Joe to friends and contemporaries - masterfully emblemized how inspired and inspiring Cebuano-infused takes on the creative styles can be.
Born in 1952, Joe passed on last month a day before this year's holding of World Art Day.
