Phl aviation faces talent crunch amid rapid growth

The Philippines' civil aviation regulator has confirmed a widening shortage of pilots and aviation engineers as the country's air travel market expands faster than training capacity, intensifying pressure on the industry to accelerate workforce development.

Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) Director General Raul Del Rosario said demand for aviation professionals is “rapidly rising,” with passenger volumes already exceeding the system’s designed capacity.

He cited growing aircraft orders, new airport projects and the country’s ascent as one of Asia’s fastest-expanding aviation markets.

“We are over capacity. Airlines are acquiring more aircraft, airports are expanding, and the industry needs more pilots, mechanics, air traffic controllers and specialists,” Del Rosario said during commencement ceremonies of Airworks Aviation Academy on December 10 at the Mactan Newtown.

He noted that the Asia-Pacific region is expected to lead global aviation growth through 2030, with the Philippines among the key drivers.
