Amid the looming nationwide transport strike over alleged corruption on government flood-control projects, the national government's flagship food subsidy program, Benteng Bigas, Meron Na!, is set to roll out today in five major cities including Cebu City.

The Department of Agriculture (DA), in coordination with transport and local government agencies, is launching this initiative to deliver rice priced at just P20 per kilo to over 57,000 public transport workers nationwide.

In Cebu City alone, nearly 25,000 jeepney, bus, tricycle drivers, and operators combined are expected to benefit from the initial distribution at the Food Terminal Inc. compound.

Aside from Cebu City, initial distribution centers were activated in Quezon City (17,633 beneficiaries), Navotas City (1,001), Angeles City (9,961), and Tagum City (3,650).

What will AI do to our future?

Earlier this year, I stumbled across a talk by the Israeli philosopher Yuval Noah Harari about artificial intelligence. He was making a provocative analogy. Think about AI as a new form of immigration, he said — only this wave of immigration is going to be more intense than anything that’s come before it.
