President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has signed into law Republic Act No. 12232, officially postponing the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections originally set for December 2025. Under the new law, the next BSKE will be held on the first Monday of November 2026 and every four years thereafter.

The Presidential Communications Office (PCO) confirmed the enactment on Wednesday, August 13.

The law was transmitted the same day to Senate President Francis “Chiz” Escudero, with Executive Secretary Lucas P. Bersamin forwarding two original copies of the signed document. Additional copies were furnished to House Speaker Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez and the Presidential Legislative Liaison Office.

The signing came a day later than initially scheduled. Malacañang had earlier informed the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) of an August 12 enactment, but final administrative reviews and the President’s diplomatic schedule during his state visit to India delayed it by a day.
