Incentive eyed in lieu of Charter Day bonus

Cebu City Mayor Nestor Archival said he is still weighing whether to grant a Charter Day bonus to City Hall employees, stressing that any decision must comply with legal standards as deliberations remain ongoing.

Archival said the Commission on Audit (COA) had repeatedly flagged similar bonuses granted over the past three to five years, prompting caution from the city administration.

“Kinahanglan mo makasabot nga ang gihatag nato nga bonuses in the last three to five years, gi-flag sa COA unya nag sige lang gihapon tag buhat niana,” the mayor said.

He noted that employees who previously received the disallowed bonuses were later required to return the amounts, raising questions about the value of granting benefits that could even eventually be deemed illegal.
