How not to stage a coup d'état

We are not recommending the staging of another constitutional upheaval through a coup d'état or putsch as of this time. As a member of the Bar and as an officer of the court, we should be the last person to commit the felony of inciting rebellion. The situation is not ripe. There is no revolutionary situation. The people will most likely reject a forcible takeover.

- Atty. Josephus B. Jimenez

But I came across an interesting book entitled: "Coup d'état: A Practical Handbook", written by an iconic political writer Edward Lutwak in 1968 and updated in 2016. After hearing that Senator Ping Lacson was being tempted by some disgruntled retired military officers to lead a military junta that should have deposed BBM and installed a military government like in Myanmar, where the duly-elected Aung San Suu Kyi was ousted and former general Thein Sein was installed.

My take on this is clear. A coup will not succeed at this time. The armed forces are loyal to the president. Both the House and Senate leaderships are with the Palace, along with most of the LGUs. But I am sure most of the retired generals are reading Lutwak's handbook. Based on this book, my conviction becomes even more compelling that our country will not support a coup these days.
