DOE ramping up effort to address power woes

|July 13, 2025
The Department of Energy (DOE) has ramped up its effort to address recurring power issues in Camotes Islands and off-grid communities, in line with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s directive to ensure equitable access to reliable, affordable, and sustainable electricity for all Filipinos.
This nationwide initiative, prompted by recent power supply challenges in Siquijor, underscored the DOE's commitment to working closely with national agencies, local government units (LGUs), electric cooperatives, and private sector partners to develop long-term energy solutions that will empower island communities, boost local economies, and uphold energy security even in the most remote areas.
As part of this ongoing effort, the DOE, in a statement, said that it recently conducted an assessment of the power supply situation in Camotes Islands, Cebu, following reports of frequent and prolonged service interruptions.
Leading the field visit, DOE Assistant Secretary Mario C. Marasigan noted that Camotes is facing similar challenges as the province of Siquijor, particularly in sustaining stable electricity generation and delivery.
