DILG directs infra audits among LGUs
The Freeman
|October 31, 2025
As part of efforts to bolster preparedness for disasters, Local Government Units (LGUs) have been called upon by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) to conduct comprehensive infrastructure audits on both public and private buildings within their jurisdictions.
-
This move comes in response to the persisting threat of high-magnitude earthquakes following the back-to-back major tremors in the City of Bogo, Cebu (6.9 magnitude) and Manay, Davao Oriental (7.4 magnitude), which occurred only ten days apart.
In a statement released by the DILG yesterday (Thursday), the agency said this initiative aims to beef up community preparedness and minimize potential casualties and damage from seismic events. The DILG also emphasized the critical importance of assessing the structural integrity of buildings to ensure public safety.
The DILG’s directive extends beyond auditing key public facilities such as hospitals, schools, government offices, and emergency response centers, to include privately owned structures.
