DILG brings Amuma Program to barangays

Women from four barangays in Cebu City took center stage on Tuesday as the Department of the Interior and Local Government Region (DILG)-7 brought its AMUMA program to the Tejero Sports Complex, highlighting financial literacy, unity, and grassroots empowerment.

“Amuma,” a Cebuano term meaning to nurture or care for, captures the spirit of the initiative, which was conceived in 2022 by DILG-7 Regional Director Leocadio Trovela. Since its launch, AMUMA has empowered women across Central Visayas, particularly those in disadvantaged and hard-to-reach barangays.
The program focuses on strengthening women’s capacity in savings, financial management, and community solidarity. In Cebu City, AMUMA has previously been implemented through orientations and kamustahan sessions, where participants shared how the initiative helped them form savings groups, manage household expenses more effectively, and gain confidence in barangay-level affairs.
