City, DSWD-7 step up donation drives for quake-hit areas

As tremors continue to be felt in several parts of the country, including Cebu City, both the Cebu City Government and the Department of Social Welfare and Development in Central Visayas (DSWD-7) continued their donation drives to help families affected by recent earthquakes in Northern Cebu and Davao Oriental.

Cebu City Mayor Nestor Archival said the city has so far received over P3 million in cash donations since the drive began. As part of his earlier commitment, the city will match all contributions peso for peso, bringing the total amount to more than P7 million.
“Since the drive started, we’ve seen Cebuanos extend their generosity once again. Every peso counts in helping our fellow Filipinos rebuild,” Archival said in an interview yesterday, October 13.
Last Saturday, the city opened another donation drive, this time for Davao Oriental, which was hit by a magnitude 7.4 earthquake last Friday. Archival said that as of Monday, donations for Davao had reached P116,115, which the city will also double.
