117 NEW SUPERYACHTS, THOUSANDS OF JOBS

- Ehda M Dagooc

Cebu academy preps Pinoys for luxury maritime work

A growing global fleet of luxury superyachts is creating new career opportunities for Filipinos seeking high-paying jobs abroad, with a Cebu-based training academy positioning itself as a gateway to one of the world’s most exclusive maritime industries.

The global superyacht sector is expanding as wealthy individuals increase spending on private vessels and charter experiences, driving demand for trained crew in hospitality, deck operations, engineering and watersports.

Industry data from BOATPro shows 117 superyachts measuring at least 30 meters were delivered worldwide in 2026 alone, underscoring continued growth in the luxury maritime market.

That demand is opening a niche but potentially lucrative employment pathway for Filipinos, whose reputation for hospitality and service has long made them sought-after workers in international industries.

“The industry needs more qualified crew, and Filipinos are naturally competitive because of our service culture, professionalism and adaptability,” said Capt. Jead Advincula, founder and chief executive officer of Superyacht Academy in Asia and the Pacific Corp. (SAAP).
