As the new school year begins at Mandaue City College (MCC), classroom shortages remain, leading the Mandaue City Government to take steps to ensure classes continue before the construction of the new seven-story building next year.

Mandaue City Mayor Thadeo Jovito “Jonkie” Ouano said in an interview yesterday, during MCC student orientation, that a canopy is being constructed to serve as temporary classrooms for 2,700 college students this year.

“In a way andam na ta pero as you can see naa sa atong likod atong gihinay-hinay og himo atong gisaad nga canopy kay kuwang man g’yud ni sila og classroom,” said Ouano.

He said that this measure will temporarily address the lack of classrooms. He shared that the canopy was constructed immediately after his first visit to MCC last month, when he was told they lacked at least 10 classrooms.

The canopy will serve as a semi-covered court but will not have walls.

Ouano thanked the Filipino-Chinese Chamber for donating the roofing materials for the canopy.

“Ni-donate sad sila para mas paspas, kahibaw ta how it is sa gobyerno, it would take time to purchase,” said Ouano.
