Being able to spot AI images now a necessary skill

Former Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center official Byron Garcia has filed an administrative complaint against Governor Pamela Baricuatro for violating Article 179 of the Revised Penal Code on the illegal use of uniforms and insignia after she posted an image of herself in SWAT gear.

The governor has come out to say that the image was AI-generated and was a “birthday gift” from the Cebu Provincial Police Office.

She shared it online for kicks. But Garcia seems to not have noticed it wasn’t real and, truth be told, neither did many.

With so many fake posts coming out today, it’s important for us not just to be able to spot fake news; we should also be able to figure out if a photo or video is real or AI-generated.
