AFTER ACCIDENT IN NAIA MCIA inspected for safety compliance

Following the tragic incident at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) that claimed two lives last Sunday, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Vince Dizon visited the Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA) yesterday to assess the facility’s compliance with international safety standards.
-
During the inspection, Dizon personally reviewed various areas within the airport premises, including passenger entry and exit points, immigration e-gates, security bollards, and traffic flow around the arrival and departure sections.
Dizon's visit to MCIA is part of a broader initiative to inspect all major international airports in the country after a van crashed through the glass doors of NAIA Terminal 1, killing two individuals and raising serious questions about airport safety.
"I need to make sure that all the airports comply with international safety standards," Dizon said during his walkthrough at MCIA.
One of the focal points of his inspection was the installation and effectiveness of security bollards, which were identified as a major area of concern following the NAIA incident.
