Congress leader Shashi Tharoor has said he did not make any remarks praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi, arguing that a political controversy has been fuelled by misleading headlines rather than the substance of what he actually said.

- HD Bureau

Speaking in Bathery, where the state Congress is holding a two-day brainstorming se ssion to work out the strategy for the assembly elections, Tharoor maintained that his comments were selectively interpreted, creating a narative that does not reflect his views or record. The clarification followed a wave of reactions across political circles and social media after excerpts of Tharoor's remarks were presented as endorsements of the Prime Minister. Tharoor said such portrayals ignored the broader context in which his comments were made and failed to distinguish between personal courtesy and political approval.
