In a move sparking outrage, the Gujarat government has refused to provide a relief package to traders devastated by the catastrophic fire at the Shivshakti Textile Market. The inferno, which raged for 32 hours on February 26, destroyed around 700 of the 822 shops in the market, leaving traders with losses estimated at a staggering Rs 850 crore.

Congress MLA and former Union Minister Dr. Tushar Chaudhary raised the issue in the Gujarat Assembly, demanding financial assistance for the affected traders. However, the state government rejected his plea in a written response, citing the ongoing investigation as a reason for not addressing the matter.
