SIT gets over 20 complaints, but lack of formal FIRs delays action

The alleged sexual harassment and religious conversion scandal that recently came to light at Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) in Nashik has now reached a critical stage.

The helpline set up by the Special Investigation Team (SIT), formed to investigate the matter, has so far received more than 20 complaints. However, police are facing a major legal hurdle as complainants remain reluctant to formally come forward and file First Information Reports (FIRs), delaying concrete legal action.

According to police sources, most complaints received through the helpline pertain to workplace harassment and the hurting of religious sentiments through offensive remarks against Hindu deities. However, for these complaints to gain legal validity, victims must physically approach the police and register formal complaints. It is understood that many victims are hesitant due to social pressure, fear of career repercussions, and concerns about their identities being exposed.

In connection with the matter, a case has been registered against eight individuals. A female victim had initially approached the company’s HR department for redressal. However, after allegedly failing to receive a satisfactory response, she approached the police.
