Fiscal deficit at 36.5% of FY26 target

India's fiscal deficit for the first six months of FY25-26 (AprilSeptember) stood at Rs 5.73 lakh crore (36.5% of annual estimates), according to government data released on Friday.

The government has received Rs 17.30 lakh crore (49.5% of corresponding budget estimates 2025-26 of total receipts) up to September, 2025 comprising Rs 12.29 lakh crore of tax revenue (net to the centre), Rs 4.66 lakh crore of non-tax revenue and Rs 34,770 crore of non-debt capital receipts.
More than Rs 6.31 lakh crore has been transferred to state governments as devolution of share of taxes by the centre during this period which is Rs 86,948 crore higher than the previous year.
