Tensions within Tamil Nadu's ruling alliance have surfaced after Congress MP Manickam Tagore publicly defended his party's call for a share in governance, questioning how such a demand could be described as a "conspiracy", an apparent rebuttal to remarks by Chief Minister MK Stalin.

Tagore, a Lok Sabha member from Virudhunagar and a senior Congress figure in the state, said seeking a role in administration “in a spirit of friendship" could not be equated with subversion.

Without naming Stalin directly, he asked how a request to participate in serving the people could be portrayed in negative terms.
