CALCUTTA HC ALLOWS 'BABRI' CEREMONY

The Calcutta High Court on Friday declined to interfere with a program organised by suspended Trinamool Congress (TMC) MLA Humayun Kabir regarding the proposed foundation of a Babri Masjid in Murshidabad on December 6, the anniversary of the 1992 Babri Masjid demolition in Uttar Pradesh.

A division bench of Acting Chief Justice Sujoy Paul and Justice Partha Sarathi Sen, while hearing a PIL seeking a stay on the foundation-laying ceremony, observed that 19 companies of the Central Armed Forces have already been deployed in Murshidabad pursuant to a previous court order. The bench directed that the responsibility for maintaining law and order would rest with the West Bengal government. Recording the stand of the Advocate General, the court said, "The State must act as per its stand, and the law and order situation shall be maintained in Murshidabad strictly, and the lives and properties of the citizens will be protected.
