DMK's petition challenges EC move while AIADMK backs
A legal confrontation has erupted in Tamil Nadu over the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls after the DMk-led state government filed a petition in the Supreme Court of India challenging the Election Commission of India ’s notification and questioning the exercise’s legality.
The ruling party claims the revision threatens to disenfranchise large numbers of genuine voters, while the opposition All India Anna _ Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam has declared its support for the drive, accusing the DMK of seeking to delay standard voter-roll cleansing.
The SIR process, initiated by the Election Commission, spans 12 states and union territories and aims to update and verify voter lists through door-to-door enumeration, removal of deceased or duplicate entries and enrolment of first-time voters.
