TDB chief admits error

Travancore Devaswom Board president P. S. Prasanth hinted that the board may have committed an error in 2019 by entrusting gold-plated copper overlays from the Sabarimala temple to Unnikrishnan Potty, a former temple aide now embroiled in allegations of misappropriating sacred artefacts.

He told reporters in Thiruvananthapuram that the Chennai-based firm contracted for the restoration had issued a 40-year warranty in Potty’s name.

Prasanth denied that the panels were ever handed over to Potty himself, maintaining that the board's 2019 contract referred only to copper panels and that Potty’s name appeared solely because the warranty was taken in his name. He reiterated that any wrongdoing alleged in the matter was politically motivated and reaffirmed that the board would seek a full inquiry.
