PMC struggles with declining revenue

Even as the Pune Municipal Corporation's (PMC) annual budget has crossed ₹12,500 crore, its actual revenue generation continues to lag, raising serious concerns about the civic body's financial health.

For the past few years, income has consistently fallen short of estimates, prompting the administration to finally focus on the long-neglected Revenue Enhancement Committee.

The committee, constituted in January 2020 to explore ways to boost the corporation's income, remained largely inactive for years. However, with the need for increased revenue becoming critical, the PMC recently convened a meeting of the committee, focusing on strengthening its financial position.
