Monorail derails during test run at Wadala depot

The front portion of a monorail train reportedly derailed, while switching tracks during a routine trial at the Wadala depot on Wednesday morning, sparking fresh concerns around the mass-transit system, which has been suspended since September.

In the photos and videos shared on social media, the train appeared tilted. The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority, which operates the service through the Maha Mumbai Metro Operation Corporation Ltd (MMMOCL), termed it a minor incident.

“Two technical staff members, who were inside the rake, were safely evacuated and no injuries were reported,” said an official. Fire and rescue teams were rushed to the site to secure the area and ensure there was no further risk. Sources said that a technical glitch during track switching may have triggered the derailment, though the exact cause is yet to be officially confirmed.
