How about a millet-tomato fair for local identity and cultural flavour

Farmers in Dharmapuri have pressed the district administration to organise a millet and tomato exhibition, arguing that such an event could expand value-added product output and persuade more growers to raise native varieties.

Cultivation data show that Dharmapuri dedicates about 57,000 hectares annually to millets—such as ragi, samai, cumbu and kudirvali—and roughly 12,000 hectares to tomatoes. Farmers say exposure through an exhibition would help smooth out price crashes during gluts, provide marketing channels for underused grains, and highlight millets’ health and cultural value.
