HC flags education dept's portal misstep

The Bombay High Court on Saturday chided the education department for refusing to approve appointments of teachers directly by colleges and not through Pavitra Portal.

The portal is a part of the state school education and sports department designed to handle teacher recruitment online, especially for zilla parishad and municipal schools across Maharashtra. However, it has not been activated since 2017.

A bench of Justices Ravindra Ghuge and Ashwin Bhobe noted that the court has passed at least 100 orders where it asked the state to regularise direct appointments but to no avail. It remarked that despite seminars held for the education officer over the portal, they “cannot be educated”.
