Ahmedabad airport launches India’s most advanced baggage screening system to curb smuggling

In a first-of-its-kind initiative in India, Anmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport has introduced a new, international-level luggage checking system aimed at tightening airport security and preventing smuggling of gold, drugs, and other contraband.

The system, implemented under the supervision of senior customs officials, brings unprecedented transparency and accuracy to baggage inspection — a model that no other Indian airport currently offers.

The move comes amid a significant rise in passenger traffic and international flight operations at Ahmedabad airport, particularly during evening hours. Officials revealed that in recent months, multiple cases of gold and drug smuggling worth crores have been detected, making Ahmedabad a preferred entry point for illegal consignments.
