Kurian-backed Google AI Hub marks Kerala's $15 billion pride

Thomas Kurian, CEO of Google Cloud, is credited as a key proponent of Google's $15 billion Visakhapatnam _ project to build its first AI hub in India in what the company says is its largest investment outside the United States.

The project will combine gigawatt-scale data centre operations, a new subsea cable gateway, expanded fibre infrastructure, and clean energy capacity to power advanced AI applications.The announcement comes amid rising U. S.-India trade ten-

sions and follows a period of dynamic infrastructure investment into India’s digital backbone. Google says the hub will accelerate innovation, reduce latency for ndian users, and help position the country as a global Al competitor.

A native of Pampady in Kerala, Kurian has publicly framed the hub as a critical pillar of Google’s long-term ndia strategy. He noted that the initiative would unlock new compute capabilities alongside energy and communications infrastructure. Google’s public statements confirm the plan includes
