Govt Cardiac Care Struck as Mounting Dues Cut Supplies
The Free Press Journal - Indore
|September 02, 2025
The existing inventories will be depleted within a week and if at least ₹100 crore is not paid immediately, operations will cease entirely.
Hospitals across Kerala may be unable to perform angioplasty procedures as distributors of critical cardiac devices have suspended supply, citing unpaid dues amounting to ₹158.68 crore owed by 21 government hospitals and medical colleges. The disruption came into effect on September 12, 2025, when supplies of coronary stents, guide wires, guide catheters and PTCA balloons began to run critically low. Without immediate payment, distributors warn that cardiac interventions could grind to a halt within days, placing countless lives at risk.
