BLO’s suicide sparks statewide protest over work pressure

A tragic incident in Ettu-kudukka, Payyannur, has ignited widespread concern over the working conditions of Booth Level Officers in Kerala. Aneesh George, a 33-year-old peon at Kunnaru UP School, tragically took his own life after reportedly succumbing to the intense work pressure associated with the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. His father has attributed his son’s death to the stress linked to his duties under the SIR project, which is designed to update the voter list in preparation for upcoming elections.

According to him, the constant pressure to meet deadlines and manage the demands of the SIR project overwhelmed Aneesh, leading to his tragic decision.

The emotional toll of his responsibilities appears to have been compounded by long working hours and the high expectations set by electoral authorities. Aneesh's family, devastated by the loss, has expressed anger over what they perceive as the lack of support and recognition for BLOs, who play a crucial role in the electoral process.
