Alarm over RTI identity disclosures

A prominent anti-corruption group has alerted the Tamil Nadu government to increased risks faced by citizens filing applications under the Right to Information Act. The organisation, Arappor Iyakkam, wrote to Chief Minister_M.K-Stalin accusing local officials of disclosing applicants’ contact details and enabling threats from vested interests.

The letter names at least three cases in the districts of Tiruvannamalai and Tirunelveli where RTI filers were allegedly intimidated following contact disclosure by Public Information Officers.
