Women a soft target on social media, over 2.25 lakh cybercrime complaints filed in 5 years

Women appear to be the soft target on social media as the country has witnessed over 2 lakh cybercrime complaints related to women have been registered on the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (NCRP) in the past five years.
The NCRP data shows a staggering total of 225001 complaints related to cyber crimes against women from 2020 to 2024. Even the numbers continue to surge in the past couple of years as 22,188 cases were reported in 2020 rising to 48,475 in 2024. While the highest 62224 cases were reported in 2022 and 52048 in 2021. Even, cases of sexually explicit material topped the list with 74,510 case
